In recent years residents have repeatedly raised concerns with Ilmington Parish Council about traffic speeds within the village.
The Ilmington Road Safety Group (IRSG) has, on behalf of the Parish Council, been working with Warwickshire Highways to find out what can be done.
As a village without street lights our options are limited. Measures such as speed humps and chicanes are not permitted because of the risk to the safety of drivers when it is dark.
As a first step the Parish Council proposes installing ‘village gateways’ on the four main roads into the village. These will make it more obvious that that this a built-up area with a 30mph speed limit. The gateways will be located where the speed limit drops from 60mph to 30mph. Many nearby villages have these gateways. They appear to have a positive impact.
Before going ahead, we need to know if this is the village wants.
The Parish Council will be seeking external funding to support the cost of the installing village gateways. Strong support from the village will make it easier for us to raise the money.
We are also looking into whether we could reduce the speed limit to 20mph in the future. This is not subject of this consultation. We will consult on this when we have more information about how this could work.
If you would like to find out more about the proposed village gateways, please speak to Councillor Chris Plyming.
